About Us

StoughtonCARES formed in 2009 to create a community-based coalition whose mission was to reduce the frequency, severity and overall numbers of youth engaging in underage drinking. It was the group’s hope to accomplish this mission through community engagement as a result of education about the reality and the dangers of underage drinking and best evidence-based practices for addressing it.

Since 2009 the Coalition has worked to make positive changes in the Stoughton community regarding youth risk behavior problems, which research shows are barriers to academic achievement as well as economic and social-emotional cost burdens on individuals, families and the community of taxpayers. Our work has also included ALL substance use — alcohol, prescription drugs, OTC drugs, heroin and marijuana.

The Coalition’s past achievements have included community awareness-raising activities such as “Parents Who Host, Lose the Most”, NARCAN trainings, town hall meetings, forums, Candidate Coffee and Candidate Forums, 411 on 4/20 Campaign, Festival Check-list, Social Host Ordinance and distribution of “How to Raise a Drug-free Kid”, by Joseph Califano Jr. to parents in the community. The Coalition has also sponsored Movie Night at the Park and Santa is Coming events to allow alcohol-free and drug-free family fun time together.

 FACT:

Two-thirds of teens who misused pain relievers say that they got them from family and friends, including their home medicine cabinets.
